The Green Bricks for Residential and Commercial Buildings Project supports the production of fly ash bricks and Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) blocks in Madhya Pradesh, India. Fly ash bricks and AAC Blocks are high insulation value and low embodied energy bricks and blocks for residential and urban construction. The process to manufacture these concrete blocks and fly ash bricks uses renewable local biomass as a source of energy, uses less energy than the manufacture of conventional clay bricks, and results in a building product with an insulation value higher than conventional alternatives, which in turn can reduce the energy consumption of buildings over their lifespans.
The use of these green concrete blocks and fly ash bricks, in place of clay bricks produced through the BTK process, results in significantly less carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses. Their use also supports local fuel sources, as the biomass fuel for the process comes from biomass briquettes created from local agricultural residues, displacing coal. Further, these blocks and bricks both integrate non-hazardous fly ash wastes from a nearby thermal power plant, which would otherwise be dumped, and are known to contribute to local water and air pollution. 2ff7e9595c
